Low Sutton is 1.5 miles to the west of Masham the gateway to Wensleydale, situated at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. To the west lie the Pennine Hills and to the east the Vale of York. Set in unspoilt countryside there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area by foot, car or public transport. A wide variety of walks are available with something for people of all levels of experience. Masham is an old market town full of charm and things to do. There is a twice weekly market held in the square, a choice of places to eat and a number of interesting local independent shops. Annual events include Masham Sheep Fair, Steam Rally, Jazz, Art and Beer Festivals.

  • The area is good for walking in particular Hackfall wood is at the Masham end of the village of Grewelthorpe.The landscape that can be seen today was in large part a result of design and work undertaken by the Aislabies. John Aislabie bought Hackfall wood for £906 in 1731. He was already famous for his landscaping work at nearby Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

  • Clay pigeon shooting at Warren Gill shooting ground with Dave and Anne Elgie which is Located near Fearby cross near Masham.

  • The curious rock formations at Brimham in Nidderdale are scattered over some 50 acres on Brimham Moor and provide a great variety of weird and wonderful shapes. Many of the gritty monstrosities suggest all manner of things, including elephants, hippos, bears, mushrooms and some are said to have associations with druids, Mother Shipton and even the Devil himself.

  • Swinton Park Hotel provides a Cookery School, Birds of Prey and Spa treatments for non residents. is the ancestral home of the Cunliffe-Lister family.

  • The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

  • Aysgarth Falls is a spectacular triple-drop waterfall situated in a lovely wooded gorge, on the River Ure within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

  • Founded in 1156, Jervaulx Abbey was once a great Cistercian monastery.

  • Bolton Castle is a mediaeval fortress preserved in outstanding condition situated in the heart of Wensleydale inside the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Completed in 1399, its scars bear testament to over 600 years of history, including being besieged during the Civil War in 1645 and Mary, Queen of Scots imprisonment in 1569. The castle was built by Sir Richard Le Scrope, Lord Chancellor of England and 1st Lord Scrope of Bolton. It has never been sold and remains in private hands.

  • Middleham Castle once home to King Richard III known in former times as the Windsor of the North built in the 12th century.

  • Nidderdale museum is situated in the picturesque town of Pateley Bridge and is housed in the former workhouse. Its 11 rooms illustrate the rural life of Nidderdale in the recent and more distant past.

  • The Himalayan Garden is situated near Grewelthorpe hidden from sight in a wooded valley consisting of 20 acres of spring colour.Opening hours are limited so please check website.
